Diane Counce, MD

Diane Counce, MD is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty certification in neuroradiology and headache medicine. She is the founder and owner of Neurology and Neurodiagnostics of Alabama, LLC, where she has provided comprehensive neurological care in Birmingham, Alabama, since 2008.
 
Dr. Counce completed her medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, followed by an internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Alabama Medical Center and the Birmingham VA Medical Center. She went on to serve as Chief Neurophysiology Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed advanced fellowship training in neuroimaging at the Neurological Institute of Alabama.
 
With more than two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Counce has specialized expertise in headache disorders, migraine, epilepsy, concussion evaluation, neuroimaging, neuromuscular disease, and movement disorders, including the therapeutic use of neurotoxins such as Botox® for chronic migraine, cervical dystonia, and spasticity. She is triple board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in Headache Medicine, and Neuroimaging.
Dr. Counce has held numerous leadership and advisory roles, including NFL-qualified physician for the NFL Concussion Settlement, founding member of Concussion Clinics of America, contributing member for REACT19, and regional advisory board member for ProAssurance. She has also served as a medical director, chief medical officer, and principal investigator for multiple clinical research organizations.
 
A nationally recognized educator and speaker, Dr. Counce has participated extensively in clinical trials, pharmaceutical advisory boards, and speaker programs, and has served as national faculty and proctor for neurotoxin injection training. She has authored peer-reviewed publications in neurology and epilepsy and remains actively involved in ongoing clinical research in migraine, epilepsy, essential tremor, and movement disorders.
 
Dr. Counce is known for her compassionate, attentive approach, taking time to listen to her patients and tailor treatment plans to each individual’s needs. She believes in partnering with patients and families to improve quality of life and long-term neurological health. Since the onset of Covid, she has taken care of those patients with long-Covid and vaccine injury.  She is committed to helping patients understand their condition and feel confident in their care.
