Jeffrey M Jones, MD

Jeffrey M. Jones received his MD and PhD (microbiology) from the University of Illinois Medical School at Chicago. His thesis was an early demonstration of the role of cytokines as communication vehicles in the immune response. After his internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital he joined the Public Health Service and did research at NIH for two years, demonstrating how suppressor T cells modulated the antibody response to type III pneumococcal polysaccharide.
After completing his training at UW he joined the faculty, beginning a thirty year career in which he practiced clinical infectious diseases at the UW medical center. He operated a laboratory focused upon medically important fungi and development of tests for the noninvasive diagnosis of infections in immunocompromised hosts. He was  Chief of Medicine and then Chief of Staff at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison, WI. He is now Professor Emeritus of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
