What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?

I was a very fit and well person living an active lifestyle prior to having the Pfizer vaccine. Through my work, the Government mandated that I be vaccinated. I worked full time in an active role that encompassed office and field work. I now lead a very "narrow" and sedentary life, unable to exercise, unable to work full time, unable to do simple daily tasks.

Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.

After the first vaccine in June 2021, I developed spontaneous bruising and pain in my feet. This resolved after 2 weeks and I had the second vaccine as recommended. After the second vaccine I started to develop pins and needles in limbs, burning feet, shortness of breath, reduced exercise tolerance and increasing vein prominence. I kept thinking it would improve but it continued to the point where at just over two months later I was admitted to the Hospital Emergency Department.

At the time I presented with shortness of breath, burning pain centrally through my abdomen and over left shoulder, veins newly varicosed over my feet and ankles and distended over my lower limbs, abdomen and arms. Pain between shoulders. Hypertensive 195/100 (normally 120/80). Rash over my lower limbs and hot to touch skin. Investigations ruled out heart attack, DVT, pulmonary embolus. Emergency department doctors didn’t associate it with the vaccine as my presentation was not immediately post vaccines. I was discharged to follow up with the Hospital Medical Clinic for further investigations.

The Hospital Medical Clinic commenced antihypertensive medication and Endep for nerve pain. I have had numerous investigations for Pelvic Congestive syndrome, DVT, bloods for autoimmune conditions, neuropathy.. Investigations included CT Abdomen, Cardiac Echo, CT Brain, CT Thoracic, abdominal ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound, Doppler studies legs x 3, nerve studies, spinal MRI, skin biopsies,

Dermal atrophy and loss of fat and connective tissue to my hands forearms, feet, legs. Increasing prominence of veins as skin thins/loss of tissue. MRI bilateral legs confirmed connective tissue atrophy.

In November 2021, after many investigations and referrals to doctors not knowing what was going on or what to do with me – symptoms and presentations that don’t fit the box, blood results and tests within normal parameters, my vaccine injury was acknowledged and reported.

Immunologist diagnosed Post Covid Vaccine Autoimmune Syndrome (multi system), Dysautonomia.

Dermatologist diagnosed pan dermal atrophy as a result of the inflammatory response to the Pfizer vaccine.

Neurologist clinically diagnosed small fibre neuropathy.

Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms

Low Dose Naltrexone and Lyrica for nerve pain Mast Cell modulators, Ketotifen. Famitidine, Clarityne, for dysautonomia Don't believe Hydroxychloroquine has helped stop progression of the skin atrophy but may have helped reduce inflammation.

Which solutions were not helpful?

Supplements - difficult to pinpoint what is helpful but have tried many.. Nigella Sativa, Quercertin, Alpha Lipoeic Acid, L Arginine, Liposomal Vitamin C, Phosphatidyl Choline B Vits, D, Mg, Nattokinaise, NAC, NAD... Acupuncture. Graduated exercise - very difficult to re-introduce any sort of activity that raises heart rate, aggravates shortness of breath and neuropathy pain.

What would you like others to know?

We are not "Anti-vaxers". (Although we could have good reason to be now!) We stepped forward to seemingly do the right thing in protecting our communities and put trust in the government and health authorities that the vaccines were safe. The criteria to which the Australian govt classifies an injury is extremely narrow (ie death, myo/pericarditis, hospital admission) and it is obviously so because they are afraid of compensation claims. We need government and health authorities to acknowledge vaccine injuries are real, and were not safe for everyone in varying degrees. Once acknowledged, they need to fund research to help provide treaments and some hope for people who have sustained life-changing injuries. Presently it is hard to feel anything other than a second class citizen and collateral damage in that our lives don't matter once mass vaccinations were achieved.
