What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?

I am filling this out for my husband. Before taking the vaccines— especially the first and second Moderna boosters, he was a very active and healthy 72 year old man. He was an avid runner— running 30 miles per week. He was an avid hiker who had climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro just a few years earlier for example.

Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.

He took the original vaccines in January and February of 2021. The real problems began after the first booster in Aug. of 2021. I started noticing short term memory issue and severe mobility issues— his gait became wide, slow and unsteady and it was as if his fee were sticking to the floor. His judgment (executive function) became somewhat impaired. Our PCP told us it was “the normal aging process”. In April of 2022, he told the second booster. Within two weeks, he was unable to walk more than a short distance without assistance from someone holding him or helping him walk. His memory issues became worse and he developed incontinence. Finally, after pursuing help from doctor and doctor, he was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephaly. In January of this year (2023), he had surgery to try to correct the condition (ETV surgery) but it has not been successful so we expect to have a brain shunt implanted soon to get the fluid off of his brain. The timing of these symptoms correlate perfectly with the first and second boosters.

Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms

The ETV surgery has not worked. He has been doing PT for several weeks to try to regain some of his strength and balance with some small success.

Which solutions were not helpful?

ETV surgery

What would you like others to know?

I have seen some studies on NPH resulting from the vaccines but I can’t find much. I would be interested to know if you have reports of NPH following the boosters in particular.
