Nancy Ellison
What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?
Normal. I had a little neuropathy in my hands due to Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, but kept it controlled by taking vitamin B12.
Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.
The next day, about 24 hours after the vaccine, I started having pins and needles sensation starting in my back, then chest and progressing outwards throughout my entire body. When it moved up onto my face, it got rather frightening. I called the health department. They said they were not familiar with this reaction and I should call my dr asap. They supposedly noted it with the CDC.
Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms
My dr prescribed 3 days of prednisone. The pins and needles settled after a few weeks. We debated and delayed taking a second shot. I eventually went to another dr's office for shot #2 on 5/3/21. This dr suggested I might be allergic to the serum with the MRNA from Pfizer. So, my 2nd shot was from Moderna. I had the same pins and needles reaction throughout my body only it began within 30 minutes upon administration of the shot. I received a benadryl and additional prednisone.
Which solutions were not helpful?
After the 2nd shot, I continued to have neuropathy especially in my hands for several months off and on. I revisted my dr and was sent to a neurologist. The neurologist checked for carpal tunnel and other nerve issues. At the follow-up visit, the neurologist told me all was normal. He also said my troubles were not due to the covid shot. I did not agree. I did not return. Luckily, my symptoms finaly subsided for the most part. I will not take another shot or booster.
What would you like others to know?
I was so fustrated that the neurologist just blew off the fact that the vaccine could have caused my reaction. I really wanted some kind of paperwork from the dr to exempt me from any further vaccines if things were ever mandated. I quit trying to get that paperwork. I am thankful that things righted themselves for me. I am so sorry to hear about so many who have lasting issues.
