What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?

Before the vaccine, I was a healthy Junior in High School. I was a varsity tennis player. I was also very involved with church youth. My parents just bought me my first car in September before my injury. I was looking forward to getting a part-time job, finishing my Senior year of school, and beginning my college education.

Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.

My symptoms began on January 10 on the tennis court after school. I was playing a match, my opponent served the ball, and in a split second my body would not “”Go.”” I became dizzy, had a sharp pain across my heart and I could not breathe. I thought maybe my exercise-induced asthma was acting up. I took a 5-minute break, took my inhaler, and went in and finished my match. By the end, I was blurry, was nearly hyperventilating, and could not drive home. Days following, I just did not feel well. The head pain began to come, I would feel like every time I would stand my body would want to pass out. Episodes of dizziness, tinnitus, and blurriness began, along with muscle weakness mainly in my neck. It felt like a rubber band, with no support. By January 23, my symptoms had become debilitating and I went to Texas Children’s Hospital where I spent a week under the care of a Pediatric Neurologist. I was discharged as I went, and my symptoms remained the same today.

Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms

I have been refractory to all medications, procedures, and treatments I have tried. I remain the same, not a symptom change. New symptoms have come, some have worsened.

Which solutions were not helpful?

I have been refractory to everything. Many medications I have tried make my symptoms worse.

What would you like others to know?

Keep fighting, never give up. Stay positive, as hard as it can be. My mom has been my biggest advocate, researching for treatment, making and taking me to Dr. appointments, lab draws, and taking me to treatments I have tried. She is always working on what’s next.
