Self Care Matters

Yes, Self Care!

Self Care can be one of the hardest things we do. Day to day events seem to get in the way of one of the most important things we need to do for ourselves. Especially for people who have been injured by chronic illness like Long Covid or Covid-19 vaccine injuries. It can be exhausting trying to find remedies just to manage the symptoms that come with these illnesses or injuries, Self care is actually one of the most important things you can and should do. The little things you do will add up to big things for whole of self care. - - - - - - - -

Tips for Self Care

Resilience – Don’t let the little things get to you. Ask yourself, is it worth reacting to? Does it really change anything? Can I make it better, or is this just the way it’s going to be? Remember the old adage, count to 10? Can I learn to live with it? Then, brush it off!  Be a Better Care Giver - When you take better care of yourself it benefits those around you, and you become better caregiver. If you are stressed, those you care for will sense it. You will have a harder time focusing on the tasks at hand, and there will be a greater chance of mistakes or mishaps.Caring for those you love should bring you joy. If you are stressed or not fully present, you are missing that something you could be receiving in return. Self Confidence - Choose who you spend time with, and avoid those toxic relationships. Learn say no. Spend time with your cheerleaders – those friends and family members who will encourage you to try new things and help you achieve your goals will ultimately improve your self care! Reduce Stress and Anxiety – Learn to manage your time. It’s especially important to do something you love every day. Start with 5 minutes. You will be surprised to find 15, 20, or 30 minutes will have gone by on that painting you have been putting off or that adult coloring book you used to love that’s gathering dust. Improve Sleep Quality – Take time to meditate before bed. This calms the neurological system which helps you sleep better, and (bonus!) it also improves digestion! If you haven’t downloaded one of those popular apps yet, “Calm”, or “Headspace”, do it now. They are well liked because they work.  If you already have those phone apps but haven’t used them in awhile, remember those “feel goods” when first using them? They are just a finger click away! You pay for them, so start using them again. Diet – Yes, diet can be difficult when you are not feeling like ayourself. But it is so important! You are what you eat! My personal favorite is “Eat a Rainbow Every Day!” It is fun, nutritious, and easy to remember, and it reminds you of what you may be missing for the day. Colors represent the food groups you need to heal. Berries in bright blues, purples and reds are important antioxidants. Vegetables in yellows, greens, and oranges are essential fiber. Be a rainbow every day! When you take time to do these simple things, it will bring joy to your life, and help you focus, increase productivity, and improve overall health. Start the process of healing now with what you can control now. Calming your nervous system is important to your overall health. A multitude of studies prove it. Start today and take control of your SELF CARE!
