What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?
I was reasonably fit though with a few instances of tennis elbow and tendonitis. I was able to walk fine though not athletic.
Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.
Started getting hip pain which slowly got worse so I had to walk with sticks. X Ray and MRI found no osteoarthritis just inflammation. The same happened with my knees, then my back and neck. I was unable to get out of bed unaided, or get dressed or shower unaided. I was so stiff in the morning I felt like I was turning to stone. This was by July 21. By September I had a headache at the back of my head, worse on pressure, and jaw ache. I had trouble opening my mouth wide enough to eat.
Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms
I suggested PMR to the GP and was put on 15mg prednisolone with almost immediate improvement, back to normal except the headache so I was told to take 40mg prednisolone which got rid of it. I was diagnosed with GCA. I am now slowly tapering down my dose and currently on 7mg but I can't walk far anymore or do anything for too long. I started getting stiff hips again. I am under rheumatology at the local hospital.
Which solutions were not helpful?
Physio and massage did NOT help. Painkillers did not help.
What would you like others to know?
I know there are other people who developed PMR/GCA from the vaccine and they need to know about this survey.
